The Neuse Location
Glen Laurel is located off of Highway 42 in Clayton, NC. Clayton was a once rural community that has experienced great industrial and residential growth as the nearby Raleigh area has grown. Manufacturers such as Caterpillar and bio-pharmaceutical companies like Talecris and Novo Nordisk have taken residence in Clayton and become major local employers. Commercial development along Us-70 has produced thriving retail and service areas. With all of the growth Clayton has experienced, it still stays true to its quaint origin. The downtown area houses specialty and coffee shops, financial services, furniture stores, restaurants, jewelry stores, and personal care businesses. Some of Clayton’s oldest businesses, Beddingfields Drugs (1919), Jones Lunch and TR Lee Gas & Oil (both est. in 1958) still remain strong cornerstones downtown. Clayton is home to the Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library, one of the only municipal libraries in the state. The Clayton Center houses a beautiful auditorium as well as a conference center with state-of-the-art equipment and is popular with businesses and community members around the region. The Clayton Youth Theatre, Eye of the Eagle Art Center, and the Clayton Visual Arts Organization are all a testament to the arts and cultural focus of the community. The parks and recreation department offers fun for all members of the family with three parks sites with five athletic fields, tennis courts, basketball court, volleyball courts, and mountain bike trails. Clayton offers many community events as well. Clayton’s close proximity to Raleigh gives residents endless options in employment, entertainment, shopping and education.
